Introduction

Definition of Zakat

Based on Language

It derivative from th word  (زكى) meaning sacred and fertile, including clean, blessing, growing, and good to zakat property, zakat payer, and zakat recipient.

 

Based on Syarak

Zakat issuing certain property at a certain rate according to certain conditions to be allocated to certain groups.

 

Hukum Zakat

Zakat is Fardhu Ain on every Muslim who fulfills all the obligatory conditions. Therefore, a Muslim who disregards zakat may result in apostasy. While the Muslim individual who abandons zakat without denying his duty is a great sin. It is the responsibility of the government to manage the collection and distribution of zakat.

 

Position in Islam

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam.

 

Wisdom through Zakat

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. Below are the wisdom and purpose of ALLAH SWT ordered doing zakat is: -

  • Distributing a small portion of wealth from those who are rich to the less fortunate.
  • Zakat payers could purifying themselves .
  • Cleaning and nourishing the property of zakat payers.
  • Establishing the gratefulness from the gift endowed by ALLAH SWT among those who are rich.
  • Reducing jealousy among the less fortunate.
  • Establishing the relationship between the servant and the ALLAH SWT as well as relationship between man.
  • Providing opportunity for the tycoon to worship in the form of issuing zakat from their property.
  • Establishing unity among Muslims in economic and financial matters.
  • Giving the community a way to manage the economy and finance that will be pleased by ALLAH SWT.
  • Express peace and tranquility in the hearts and souls of zakat payers

 

Asnaf Zakat UPM

Zakat Management and Asnaf Development Section, UPM has allocate Lembaga Zakat Selangor, that is, UPM is only allowed to distribute zakat to five out of eight asnaf only:

 

Fakir

Muslims who do not have the property from their effort (work) that are halal and is eligible for it to meet his or her own needs and dependents including food, clothing, place of residence, and other necessities.

 

Miskin

Muslims who have a property and outcome from their work are worthy of it but are still inadequate to bear their own needs and dependents.

 

Muallaf

A new person who embraces Islam is "the one whose heart is softened" are given help to steadfast his love on Islam.

 

Ibnu Sabil

Muslims who run out of expenditure on travel or people who want to travel while they have no expenses provided: -

  • He traveled from his hometown.
  • Adventure is required by syarak.

 

Fisabilillah

Every act/matter that leads to the need and the problem of enforcing Islamic teachings.
